The Next Phase of Remote Learning (April 20th - May 4th)
Hello SBECA Spartans,
I hope as you read this you are safe and healthy. Please let someone know if you need anything at all or support in any way. We are a family and we are here to support each other.
Students, if you are caught up, your Spring Break is happening now. This means that you won't receive new lessons this week, but if you are not caught up with your work, this is your chance to complete it. Teachers and staff will be available by email if you need them or have any questions. I'm available as well, just email us if you need anything.
You will be receiving the next round of paper-based work in the mail this week. You can get a head start on it if you'd like. It will be used for instruction starting on April 20th.
Per the Mayor, NYC schools may be closed for the remainder of the year. While we hope that won't be the case, we are ready for it. That means we will continue to provide you remote learning. We will keep you informed, please check your school email. We miss you all tremendously.
We need your completed paper materials. The deadline for this is April 20th as it has always been. Please "scan" the materials your teachers are requesting to be returned. The best way is to use a free app on you or your family member's phone.
You may also drop the materials off to the school on April 20th from 9 am to 2 pm. We will set up drop boxes and follow social distancing guidelines.
For our 8th Grade. There are no Regents assessments this year. This means that if you pass the class, you pass for the year and receive your High School Credit. If you do not pass the course for the year, you do not get credit for the course and may risk retention.
You've got this! Get it done!
Quarter 3 ends on April 24th and we will be holding Family Teacher Conferences in the first few weeks of May. We will have town halls and send informational messages in the next week to make you aware of further details. Links to the each grade level's academic information are to the right of this page for your convenience.
If you or your family need anything at all, please let us know. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please be well, we hope to see you soon!

Remote Learning—(March 16th – April 20th)
Dear SBECA Families,
We know these are very new and different times for us all, but our dedicated team of professionals has created a plan for our school that will maximize learning despite this unusual circumstance with which we are all dealing.
Please take a close look at the important information below for a detailed breakdown of how to keep your child busily engaged, learning, and healthy even while we are not in the school building. This information will also assist you with staying informed regarding the latest SBECA news as well as with the work your child must complete in order to continue to progress with his or her studies. Just because we are not meeting in the building does not mean the learning stops.
Material pick-up will be Tuesday, March 17th from 8 am to 12 pm and Wednesday, March 18th from 8 am to 12 pm. The building will also be open from 8 am to 1 pm throughout the break for families to pick up grab-and-go breakfast and grab-and-go lunch for the entire family if needed

A Letter From the Principal
Dear SBECA Community,
Welcome to the new academic year! We are excited about the 2019 - 2020 school year. South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School (SBECA) has a dedicated and passionate staff, supportive family, and creative, energetic scholars. We are going to achieve great things together. My name is Brian Blough, the principal here at SBECA. I have been a teacher or administrator in this neighborhood for the past 8 years. I was a special education teacher and have a deep understanding of how each child learns differently and know what it will take to help every child succeed.
At SBECA, we care for everyone in the school and consider them important stakeholders. This includes scholars, families, and teachers as well as our Board of Trustees. Our goal is to be fair and clear about what is expected of you and your scholar this school year. We promise to prepare your scholar for college and beyond, helping them to become well-rounded, 21st-century citizens ready to give back to their community. We will be pushing for increasing the rigor of our instruction while also ensuring that school is a safe and joyful place for all of our scholars. Also, we will continue with our after school programming and increase what is offered through academic support, clubs, and sports. Please be on the lookout for more information about after school programs in the coming weeks.
I’m looking forward to meeting all of you and seeing you at our back to school night. We are adding to our social media sites to help keep everyone up to date with all of the exciting things happening on campus! We have made updates to our handbook and some of the systems within the school and hope that these changes help to clarify expectations.
We hope that your time at our school is a rewarding experience that will make you proud. My door will always be open, and I look forward to this year being the best ever at South Bronx Early College Academy.
Brian Blough, Principal
